Accessibility Statement

Let us know how we're doing! If you have any questions, comments or suggestions regarding the accessibility of this website, feel free to contact me, Ryan at another_decker@yahoo.com.

This site strives to correctly implement the accessibility tips set forth at Dive Into Accessibility in order to make this site fully functional for users with impaired vision (poor eyesight, color blindness and even complete blindness) and users that choose to use non-graphical web browsers, outdated software or commonly overlooked operating systems.

Access Keys

Most browsers allow for the use of Access Keys, which allow you to use keyboard shortcuts to navigate a website if the author has defined them. On Windows, use ALT + an access key and on Macintosh, use Control + an access key.

Every page on this site uses the following access keys

Access Key 1
Go directly to the home page.
Access Key 2
Access Key 3
Access Key 4
Search this site.
Access Key 9

Users with poor vision

This site specifies font sizes in relative values, allowing for the text size to be scaled to an individual user's personal preference. Furthermore, all site elements are sized in relation to the current font size.

What that all means is that this website is effectively capable of being zoomed in on. To use this feature, locate the "View" menu in your browser toolbar. You should see a a "Text Size" menu item or similar. Horizontal scrolling may become necessary with significantly larger text sizes.

Standards Compliance

Every page of this site is approved by Bobby as conforming to the W3C's Priority 1 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and the U.S. Government's Section 508 Guidelines.

All pages on this site validate as xhtml 1.0 strict. The stylesheets used on this site also validate as properly-formed CSS.

All pages have rel=home links specified, pages further in the site specify rel=contents linking to the main page for the section of the site they are a part of. This is done to aid users of text-only browsers and screen readers. Mozilla users can also take advantage of this feature by selecting the View menu, Show/Hide, Site Navigation Bar, Show Only As Needed (or Show Always). Opera 7 has similar functionality.

All pages of this site include a form for searching the entire site (access key 4)

Links on this site whose linked text could be vague include title attributes to help elaborate what they link to. No links on this site open automatically in new windows or are launched through JavaScript.

Images

Meaningful images on this site include descriptive alt text so as not to leave users of screen readers and text-based browsers in the dark, so to speak. All images used solely for design purposes contain either an empty alt attribute or are specified as backgrounds using CSS, either way, users that browse without images aren't bothered with irrelevant information about them.

Credit

As mentioned above, this site works toward implementing guidelines illustrated at Dive Into Accessibility, This document borrows heavily in structure and content from the author of Dive Into Accessibility, Mark Pilgrim and even uses his words verbatim once or twice because he wrote them better than I could hope to paraphrase.
