The Headstone
So brilliantly it shines in the November sunlight
A cool mornin' it is with the wind kickin up the leaves
The dew clings to it like twinklin' diamonds
Then slides down it like tears of a friend
The trees bend down around it as if bowing in sadness
So gray and hard though the letters on it swirl softenin' the look about it
A simple thing really though the words tell a tale
So vivid and lovely that it stands out from the rest
The grass leans on the stone caressin' it softly
A slight measure of comfort in this big yard full of stones
It is the prettiest by far in its simplicity
No border or fancy angelic smiles grace its flatness
But the words lend it beauty
It outshines them all in this cold place
Only two words make is so
A short phrase tells her life
The loveliness even in death glitters
In that one phrase her soul shines out like the sun
"She Loved"
