Never Forgotten

Accept this face and it's flaws
Paleness of sun worshippers dead
Take this body tormented and wracked
Pick up the skin the bones the feebleness
Let it be as it was before in that mind
Strength ricochets from every appendage
Mentally at least the dreams survive
This isn't the way it is supposed to be
Walking a chore breathing so laboured
Freedom of health locked away forever
Still the intelligence survives and lives on
For a little while…

At first it was an impossibility
Then when it settled in was a death toll
Sparks flew from that brain and quashed that
This thing that enveloped pushed aside
Love flowing out and even bitterness
Beauty of verse and promise
Thoughts can never be killed
Feelings stay about always
While they still breath
One day it will all end in it's entirety
Though forgetfulness will only find a few
For this ghastly pain will take him
Yet the memory will stay and continue
For those who knew and understood
And felt
