And you left… after a sweet thought slipped from your lips
Then I sat… and listened in my head to everything you'd said during the night
You slept… when you laid your head to your bed in the dark
How I cried… when your words finally struck my heart
The pangs came and went throughout the rest of the night
I begged God to let me see you and to hold you
Just for a moment in time I wanted to feel your breath
Looking everywhere then at your printed words which I'd saved
Each glance at them only showed how much they could blur through tears
Feeling upon feeling bubbled up inside me and pulled at my heart
Every tear I shed that night was for us alone and everything we said
And the sun came
Those feelings stilled but did not leave
Lingering over me like a protective barrier
Each blow from the outside world
Every damned fucked up thing
Oh, how it all tried to get to me
To eat at me and make me sad
To fall on me and make me feel mad
Oh, my chest hurt so badly over the thought
It tried to find my weakness and play in it
Then all of it
